The height refers to the height of an uppercase letter "A" of the selected font. So if you select 4 inches the uppercase "A" will be 4 inches tall, but other letters may be shorter or taller (see image above). If all letters are ordered in lowercase, they will be still be scaled to an uppercase "A", which will make most letters smaller than the height you specify.

Selecting the Right Letter Height
As a rule of thumb letters should be 1 inch tall for every 10 feet of viewing distance. So if customers are 100 feet away you need letters at least 10 inches tall.
1/4" thick or thicker sign elements are drilled and tapped on the back to receive threaded studs. This allows the sign elements to be mounted flush against the wall. 1/8" thick sign elements are too thin to be drilled so blocks are attached to receive the threaded studs, which means the letters will stand out from the wall by about 1/4".
Strips of VHB tape are applied to the back of the product. This option is warrantied for interior installation on walls that are smooth, clean, and dry. Heavier letters may require tape and adhesive to properly secure them to a wall.
